Graffiti artist Banksy says he sold original pieces for cheap in Central Park
The elusive British artist, whose works sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, says he set up a stall in the park over the weekend selling original, signed pieces for $60 each. He says it took about four hours for the elderly man working the stall to make a sale.

Graffiti artist Banksy, whose works sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, claims he sold original pieces at starving-artist prices over the weekend in Central Park.
“Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases. For $60 each,” he wrote on his website Sunday.
The elusive British artist also posted a video of the pop-up stall on the edge of the park on Fifth Ave. near Central Park South featuring about 25 canvases of his black-and-white spray art.
Some of the artwork were riffs on famous Banksy graffiti works such as a rat riding a scooter and a bandana-masked protester hurling a bouquet of flowers.

Most people strolled by without taking a second look, likely in disbelief that the famed international street artist was actually selling his work on the street.
Banksy noted that it took about four hours before an elderly man working at the stall made his first sale.
“A lady buys two small canvases for her children, but only after negotiating a 50% discount,” Banksy wrote on the video.
A New Zealand woman got the bargain of her lifetime after she unwittingly bought two signed Banksy piece for $120.

A man from Chicago, who told the unidentified seller that he just needed “something for the walls” of his new house walked away with four paintings. He and the New Zealand woman also got hugs from the salesman.
Banksy revealed the stunt netted $420 on the day.
